Before he was a King David was a shepherd.

His job wasn't an easy one but the lessons he learned from

it helped Him to become one of the best leaders in History.

I wanted to dig in further and see what it would truly look like to live the life of a shepherd.

What is the role of a shepherd?

The duty of shepherds was to keep their flock intact, protect it from predators, and guide it to market areas in time for shearing. ... Shepherds also lived apart from society, being largely nomadic. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shepherd

What can we learn from Shepherds?

Shepherds don't just sit back and watch the sheep. There is a lot that goes into their work.

-FOCUS ON UNITY -

A large part of a shepherd Job is keeping everyone together.

That means that when a sheep goes astray the shepherd goes and looks for it and brings it back.

That one sheep matters to the shepherd. Do you know someone who has gone astray?

Are you trying to bring them back?

“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ Luke 15:4-6

-KEEP THEM SAFE-

It's important to look out for one another.

When we see an attack coming we warn and protect the people we are shepherding(Leading).

Even being willing to take hits for them. It's not about always looking good and being right but it's about protecting those you have been called to protect. Sometimes you will get a bit bloody and scarred when protecting those you lead.

- BRING THE BEST OUT OF THEM- ( Shearing)

You don't just let the people your leading get chubby and fluffy with so much wool. You see their gifts and the unique things God is producing in their lives & you give them opportunities to use those gifts and talents. If you do everything for them how will they grow. Show them how it's done nuture them and give them something to do. Watch and see what they do with that.
