Parenting 101

I will always remember the day when my home exploded with anger and frustration.

Knowing that God was calling me to suddenly move to Calgary to go to Bible college. I broke the news to my parents. My dad did not take the news well. He fought me every step of the way on it. He told me " I would never get a job out of bible college." He said, " Go to a real college and get a proper education." I felt crushed but I didn't give up on my calling.

That is why listening to Dr. Al shares about the importance of not picking a career path for your kid's really hits home with me. As parents, they didn't force career paths on to their children,

they trained their kids. They honored and gave a place for the purpose and calling in the lives of their kids. They created lots of opportunities for their children to step out in their giftings. When different ministries would come to town they would volunteer their family to help out.

Having parents that create room for you to walk in your calling makes such a huge difference.

Of course, that doesn't mean there is no discipline at all, there is still a huge need for that.

Here are a couple parenting tips that really stood out to me:

  1. Make sure the will and purpose is clear. ( You have something to hold them accountable too)

  2. Make sure there is repentance. ( It's good to admit when you are wrong and ask for forgiveness)

*I am currently not a parent but I do teach lots of children and I love my job. And there is so much I can glean from this. I want to serve and do things with my classes to give the opportunity for the kids to step into their giftings.
