Whack-A-Mole

Have you ever gone to a fair where they had a Whack- A- Mole Game?
If you haven't here is a quick description --> The game is a piece of wood or plastic with holes representing a field moles then randomly pop up through the holes. The goal is to hit as many as you can when they pop up with a hammer.

I have no trouble admitting and confessing my sin before the Lord.
What I struggle with the most is what comes next, receiving God's forgiveness and Mercy.
The Sin I confessed keeps coming up at random times like the moles in the game.
Instead of hitting the sin with the hammer and stopping it in its tracks I just let it continue to pop back up over and over again. The truth is when I confess my sin I don't fully release it. I don't let God's forgiveness wash over me. Deep down I think I deserve to be punished and to feel guilty.
That is no way to live. We are called to walk in freedom. He doesn't want us to live in condemnation blaming ourselves over and over again for stuff. But rather...
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1-2)
"God take my mistakes, take my guilt and shame.
I want to live the life you have called me to live.
Help me to walk in your forgiveness every day."
Amen
